How
to get to Wyalkatchem (Click
for Map) Starting
from Perth find your way onto the Great Eastern Highway (Midland Bypass)
until you turn left into the Roe Highway.
Travel approximately 5.4kms and turn right at Toodyay Road.
Before you enter the centre of the town of Toodyay, turn right at
the Caltex service station onto the Toodyay/Goomalling Road, (you
will immediately go over a long newly-built bridge).
Follow this road until you get to Goomalling.
Turn right into the main street of Goomalling and at the 'T' junction
turn left onto the Goomalling/Wyalkatchem Road
Follow this road through the town of Dowerin and onto Wyalkatchem.
Pull in at the roadhouse on your left and fill up.
The trip should have taken just under two hours.
Accomodation
Railway barracks From the roadhouse,
exit north on the road that leads into the town and take the first
turn on your right (before the railway crossing).
Follow this road for about 300mtrs and almost opposite the railway
station, on your right are several buildings that are fenced off,
these are called the Railway Barracks
The Barracks comprise of 16 individual rooms with 2-3 single beds
in each. (bring your own bedding) Also a laundry, male & female
showers, male & female toilets, kitchen (fridge, stove, cookware,
plates etc. supplied) and a dinning room. At a cost of $12.00 per
night.
To
get to the Airfield Head east out of town for 2.6kms.
Turn right onto the Wyalkatchem/Tammin road, drive approximately
2kms and the airfield is on your right. A breif back ground of Wyalkatchem
Wyalkatchem is about 194 Kilometer from perth on the Goomalling-Merriden
Road , the towns population at this present time is about 620. In
April of 2003 Wyalkemtchem was awarded the National tidy towns award
by the Keep Australia Beautiful council. Wyalkatchem is also the
home to Hang giding and Microlight training in Western Australia.
